Tanya Shuman: 2006 Schedule

    My schedule evolves around these objectives:
  • To continue to push the level of performance women's freestyle kayaking.
  • To support American Whitewater in their efforts with river conservation.
  • To promote the ‘fun’ in kayaking, to both those already involved in the sport and those who have not yet tried it especially with women.

January:

  • Train hard in the gym to become stronger and more agile for kayaking. Concentrating on yoga, swimming, running, and biking as well as strength training

February-March:

  • I will be paddling with Ruth Gordon and Tiffaney Manchester on the White Nile, Uganda.

April

  • The month of April will be dedicated to Wave Sport demo/clinics throughout the SouthEast. Each weekend my teammates and I will be visiting various retailers. Paddlers will have the opportunity at any skill level to paddle with us and demo out WS boats. Information will be available at your local dealer and www.doubleyouess.com.
  • Paddle and film on the New River Dries. YAHOO!!

May:

  • May 1-5: Filming and paddling on big waves like BusEater and Black Mass in Eastern Canada.
  • May 6-7: Cheat Festival, WV. Wave Sport will be holding demos/clinics at this Festival
  • May 9-14: Reno Festival, NV. The first big freestyle competition of the year.
  • May 15-25: Filming and paddling on big waves like BusEater and Black Mass in Eastern Canada.
  • May 27: Kansas City Whitewater Club. Wave Sport will be holding demos/clinics.
  • May 29: Paddler Invitational. Steamboat Springs, Colorado

June:

  • The month of June will be dedicated to Wave Sport demo/clinics throughout Colorado. Each weekend my teammates and I will be visiting various retailers. Paddlers will have the opportunity at any skill level to paddle with us and demo out WS boats. Information will be available at your local dealer and www.doubleyouess.com.
  • June 1-6: Teva Vail Mountain Games. Vail, Colorado
  • June 15-18: Fibark Festival and Competition. Salida, Colorado.
  • June 23-25: Colorado Adventure Sports Festival. Gunnison, Colorado.

July:

  • July 1-29: Filming and paddling on the Ottawa River and Lachine Rapids
  • July 14-17: Potomac Festival. Wave Sport will be holding demos/clinics here. Potomac, MD.
  • July 29-31: Deerfield Festival. Wave Sport will be holding demos/clinics here. Clarlemeont, MA.

August:

  • August 10-14: Outdoor Retail Show. Salt Lake City, Utah
  • August 23: US Team Trials. Ottawa, Canada.
  • August 26-27: World Cup Championships, Event #1. Ottawa, Canada.

September:

  • September 2-3: World Cup Championships, Event #2. Blackwater, NY.
  • September 8-10: World Cup Championships, Event #3. Rock Island, TN.
  • September 23-26: Gauley Festival, West Virginia.

October-December:

  • After making the US Team the next couple of months will be dedicated to training off and on the water. Headed to the gym and becoming a stronger and more agile kayaker by concentrating on yoga, swimming, running, and biking as well as strength training

    This is a temporary timetable. The 2006 Pro Freestyle Tour is still being scheduled. So far my itinerary will take me all over the North America as well as overseas in Europe and Africa . I will be on the road competing, teaching, and filming.
